Sell Your Connecticut House As-Is, Belongings and All

You don’t have to empty the house before you sell it

Maybe it’s a parent’s house, full of fifty years of life. Maybe it’s a house you inherited along with a barn and a yard packed with things. Maybe you just can’t face sorting through it all. Whatever the reason, the cleanout can feel like the biggest thing standing between you and selling.

It doesn’t have to be. We’re Jesse and Erica, and we buy houses in Connecticut as they are, with the belongings still inside. You take what matters to you. We handle the rest.

A real story: six dumpsters and a house full of memories

Late last year, two brothers inherited a house one town over from us after their younger brother passed away.

The house was full. So was the barn. So was the yard. Just thinking about how to empty all of it, and then get the place ready to sell, was overwhelming for them.

They also cared about the house. It had sentimental value, and they wanted it to go to someone who would take care of it.

Here’s how it went:

  • They went first. The brothers took the things that mattered to them, on their own schedule.
  • We handled everything else. About six dumpsters of belongings came out of the house, the barn and the yard. They didn’t haul a single box.
  • They set the pace. They needed time to go through things, so we didn’t rush them. We closed in about 45 days, on their timeline.

Another buyer offered them more money. They chose us anyway, because we would handle the entire cleanout and they had seen how we take care of a house. You can read the full story here.

How selling with belongings works

1. Take what you want to keep. Photos, papers, furniture, keepsakes. Take your time. If something can’t be moved yet, tell us and we’ll plan around it.

2. Leave the rest. Furniture, clothes, old appliances, tools, boxes in the attic, things in the shed or the barn. We’ll deal with it after the sale.

3. One walkthrough, one offer. We look at the house once, including what’s inside, and price it for what it needs. The cleanout is part of our number, not an extra bill for you.

4. Close when it works for you. We’ve closed in a matter of days, and we’ve worked with one seller for two years. You pick the date.

Before you start throwing things away

Look for important papers first. Deeds, wills, bank statements, tax bills and insurance papers often turn up in drawers and boxes. Set those aside before anything leaves the house.

Check with family. If other people have a say in the house or what’s in it, talk with them before the cleanout begins. It saves hard feelings later.

Talk to your attorney about the estate. If the house is part of an estate, questions about who can sign and when belong with your attorney. We’re happy to work alongside them.

Don’t pay for a cleanout you may not need. Dumpsters, haulers and junk removal add up fast. If you’re selling to us, that cost is ours.

Questions we often hear

Do I have to remove anything at all?

No. Take what you want to keep and leave the rest.

What happens to the things we leave?

After the sale, it’s ours to deal with. You won’t have to arrange or pay for any of it.

Can I come back for something I forgot?

Tell us before closing. It’s much easier to plan for it then than after the sale.

What if the house also needs a lot of work?

That’s fine. We buy houses as-is, including houses that need repairs. See selling a house that needs repairs.

Will the offer change after you see everything inside?

No. We see the house before we make our offer. Our offer has no inspection contingency, so the number won’t drop later.
