Meet Jesse and Erica

Born and raised in Ellington. Buying and restoring homes in the communities we call home.

Erica and Jesse, the couple behind JLS Realty.

A family, not a franchise

We’re Jesse and Erica Schneider. We were both born and raised in Ellington, and so were our families. We started dating in sixth grade and got married about a year and a half after high school. Today we’re raising our kids in the same towns where we buy and restore houses.

How it started

Jesse started early. At 12 he ran a small engine repair business. In high school he was buying, fixing and selling cars. At 15 he bought his first house, a rundown duplex across from a little lake. He was too young to drive, so his parents dropped him off to work on it. He rehabbed both units, rented them out and kept that house for years.

In his senior year of high school, Jesse bought an eight-family building and renovated it. After we got married, that’s where we lived. We still own it today.

Erica went to the University of Hartford and earned a bachelor’s degree in math, with a focus on actuarial science.

What we do now

We’ve restored about 40 houses so far, usually three or four a year, and we own and manage the rental properties we’ve bought along the way. Jesse is on the job site every day with our crew and leads the work himself. When we tell you what a house needs, it’s because we’re the ones who will be doing the work.

We buy mostly in Tolland and Hartford Counties: Ellington, Vernon, Manchester, South Windsor and the towns around them.

Why we do this

Most people who call us are in a hard spot. A parent passed away and left a house full of belongings. A tenant stopped paying and the stress won’t let up. A deadline is coming fast. What feels like a mountain to them is something we’ve worked through many times before. We like taking that weight off someone’s shoulders.

We also love the houses nobody else wants. The one where the grass hasn’t been cut in years and you can barely see the front door. We see what it can be again. When we restored an 1800s house on Main Street in Ellington, right across from the park and the town hall, neighbors went out of their way to tell us how glad they were to see it brought back. One house can lift a whole street.

How we’ll treat you

We want you to feel safe working with us. Selling a house is a big decision, and not everyone who calls you has your best interest at heart.

So here’s how we work. We walk through your house once. We make you one offer. That offer has no contingencies, and we won’t come back weeks later looking for reasons to lower it. If someone else can pay you more, or your house would do better listed on the open market, we’ll tell you. Sometimes the right answer is just good advice, and that’s fine with us.

If we can’t make it work, we’ll tell you straight.

Let’s talk about your next chapter.

Tell us about your home. We’re here to listen.
